Manhattan Transferred

A large, richly-textured canvas 28x22x2 featuring Gamblin Ground underlayment coating and a series of gestural over-painting layers, finished by carving and 'excavating' surfaces to reveal prior palettes and images, topped and sealed by cold wax. Unframed. Signed verso.
The' final' image brought on the title, as the summer's combination in NYC of Covid-19 and BLM-inspired disturbances made me think of Manhattan much as I had observed it 20 years earlier in Lower M in the detritus of 9//11 - one that is forever altered, suffering, perhaps dying. My 'excavations' by kitchen knife into the layers were perhaps a metaphorical search for life under the debris, a sign of hope?
